Dion Cools, the defender and captain of the Malaysian national team, remains calm and focused despite the high expectations placed on him and his teammates to end Malaysia’s trophy drought in the Pestabola Merdeka 2024 final.
Rather than feeling pressured, Cools views this opportunity as a positive motivator.
Reflecting on past experiences, he emphasized his desire to win the gold medal this year after missing out on keeping the silver medal last year.
“This is the best chance to win a medal and add a championship to my collection,” Cools stated.
His determination to succeed in this final drives him to focus on the positives and channel that energy into a strong performance.
Cools also called on Malaysian supporters to fill Bukit Jalil National Stadium and cheer for the team during the final.
“I hope the supporters can come to support us because their presence gives us energy. We will try our best because we want to lift this trophy in front of our supporters,” he added.
Pestabola Merdeka 2024 final between Malaysia vs Lebanon will be played on 8 September 2024 at 9.00 pm. at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.
