Malaysia’s professional men’s doubles pair Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong saw their impressive run at the Denmark Open 2025 come to an end in the quarter-finals after a hard-fought defeat to China’s world number four duo Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang.
Ranked 24th in the world, Azriyn-Wee Kiong were unable to replicate their stunning performance from the previous round — where they upset the world’s top-ranked Korean pair Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae — as they fell 19-21, 18-21 in a fiercely contested match at the Jyske Bank Arena.
Despite the loss, the Malaysians earned praise for their spirited performance and relentless fighting spirit, pushing the Chinese pair to their limits before bowing out after 38 minutes of intense badminton.
Just a day earlier, Azriyn-Wee Kiong had made headlines by producing one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, defeating reigning world champions Kim and Seo in straight games 21-19, 21-14 to reach the last eight.
That remarkable victory marked the pair’s biggest achievement since forming their partnership last year, showcasing their growing chemistry and potential to challenge the world’s elite.
With their exit, Malaysia no longer has representation in the men’s doubles event at this year’s Denmark Open, following the earlier first-round exits of five other national pairs.
