Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has confirmed that Datuk Mohd Joehari Mohd Ayub has officially tendered his resignation as FAM President, a decision described as deeply regrettable by the national football governing body.
In response, the FAM Executive Committee convened a Special Meeting today for the 2025–2029 term at Wisma FAM, Kelana Jaya. The session was chaired by FAM Deputy President Datuk Wira Mohd Yusoff Haji Mahadi to deliberate on the matter.
After careful consideration, the Executive Committee accepted Datuk Joehari’s resignation, acknowledging and respecting his personal decision. The committee also paid tribute to his leadership, contributions, and unwavering dedication to Malaysian football since first being elected as FAM Vice President in 2017 and subsequently as President on February 15, 2025.
“Datuk Joehari’s service has been marked by commitment, integrity, and passion for the game. We are grateful for his invaluable contributions to the growth of Malaysian football,” FAM said in a statement, while extending best wishes for his health and future endeavors.
Under Article 42, Paragraph 7 of the FAM Statutes, if the position of President becomes vacant, the longest-serving Deputy President will assume the role until the next Congress, scheduled for 2026. During that Congress, a new President will be elected to complete the remaining term.
Accordingly, the FAM Executive Committee has appointed Datuk Wira Mohd Yusoff as Acting President with immediate effect, in line with the provisions of the FAM Statutes.
This transition marks a pivotal moment for Malaysian football leadership, as the federation prepares for an important year of competitions and strategic reforms under interim stewardship.
