Selangor FC interim head coach Christophe Gamel has urged his players to show character and togetherness as they prepare to face Indonesian giants Persib Bandung in Matchday 3 of the AFC Champions League Two 2025/26 Group G at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, the French coach acknowledged the challenges of managing a congested schedule but remained confident in his players’ spirit and motivation ahead of the crucial away fixture.
“Our preparation has been okay, though we’ve had a short turnaround after our league game,” said Gamel. “It’s not easy to play every two or three days, but the boys are in good shape and in good mood. We have nothing to lose because we’re currently at the bottom of the group — so all we can do is push forward. I’m trust the boys, I’m trust the team, and now it’s time to see how they perform on the field.”
Despite acknowledging the strength of Persib’s squad — which includes several foreign stars — Gamel emphasized that his focus remains on Selangor’s own approach and mentality.
“Persib have many good players. Last time, they started with only two local players, so that shows their quality,” Gamel noted. “But my focus is not on the opponent — it’s on us. No matter who we face, we must give our best and play with identity and courage. It’s an exciting challenge, and we must be ready to meet it head-on.”
The French tactician also praised the electric football culture in Indonesia, admitting that such an atmosphere brings out the best in both teams.
“The fans here are amazing,” Gamel said with admiration. “In our last match, we played in front of 25,500 supporters, and it was incredible. In Malaysia, we also have passionate fans, but coming here — to this kind of boiling atmosphere — is something special. We enjoy this kind of energy; this is what football is all about.”
