Malaysia’s hopes of celebrating two world titles at the 2025 Badminton World Championships came to a bittersweet end when women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah fell valiantly to world No. 1s Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning of China in the final at the Adidas Arena in Paris.
Despite showing immense fighting spirit, the second-ranked Malaysian duo were denied the crown, going down 14-21, 22-20, 17-21 in a gripping contest that lasted over an hour. Pearly and Thinaah end their campaign as world silver medallists, their finest achievement yet on the biggest stage.
Their defeat, however, does not overshadow what has been a historic outing for the Malaysian contingent. Earlier, the nation erupted in celebration as Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei clinched Malaysia’s second-ever world title by lifting the mixed doubles crown.
The sixth-seeded pair stunned China’s formidable duo Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin, registering a commanding 21-15, 21-14 victory in just 40 minutes. The triumph etched their names in history, making them Malaysia’s first-ever world champions in mixed doubles.
Malaysia now proudly holds three World Championship titles, with Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik’s legendary men’s doubles win in 2022 standing alongside Tang Jie-Ee Wei’s breakthrough success and Pearly-Thinaah’s runner-up finish in Paris.
