Malaysia’s top independent men’s doubles duo Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin Rumsani saw their impressive Australian Open run halted in the semi-finals after falling to the red-hot Indonesian pair Raymond Indra–Nikolaus Joaquin in Sydney on Saturday.
The world No. 4 Malaysians were unable to break through the fierce momentum of the rising Indonesian partnership, going down 15-21, 15-21 at the Sydney Olympic Park
This result marked Raymond–Nikolaus’ second top-five upset in back-to-back days.
Just 24 hours earlier, they stunned Malaysian world No. 5 pair Man Wei Chong–Tee Kai Wun, announcing themselves as the new danger pair on the World Tour.
Their aggressive front-court pressure and sharp counterattacks proved too much for Sze Fei–Izzuddin, who struggled to wrestle control of the exchanges.
Despite the defeat, Sze Fei–Izzuddin continue to enjoy one of their most consistent seasons since becoming independent players.
However, their dream of reaching a third final this year will have to wait as they shift focus to preparation for upcoming European legs and the push toward year-end championships.
