Malaysia U20 national team keeps first victory after beating Oman U20 national team scoring 2-1 in the AFC U20 Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers Group E at Pamir Stadium, Dushanbe.
Oman had an early chance in the 9th minute, with Muhand Al-Saadi attempting a shot, but it failed to connect with Fahad Al-Mukhaini’s setup. Malaysia responded strongly, with Mohamad Haykal Danish Mohd Haizon’s close attempt in the 16th minute, but the goalpost denied the national squad from taking the lead.
Malaysia eventually broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when Moses Raj capitalized on a rebound from Haykal Danish’s free kick, firing the ball past Oman goalkeeper Abdullah Al Jabri to make it 1-0.
Oman pressed hard in the second half, but Malaysia’s goalkeeper, Haziq Aiman, was up to the challenge, making a crucial save against Faisal Al-Hadidi’s 57th-minute effort. Malaysia then doubled their lead in the 63rd minute when Haykal Danish was brought down in the box, earning a penalty. Haykal converted it with a calm ‘panenka’ to give Malaysia a 2-0 advantage.
Oman reduced the deficit in the 87th minute after Majid Al-Farsi scored from the penalty spot, but Malaysia held on to secure the 2-1 victory. This result is a huge morale boost for Juan Torres Garrido’s squad as they prepare to face North Korea in their next match on Monday.
With only the group winners and the five best runners-up advancing to the final round, these three points are invaluable for Malaysia’s chances of qualification.
The win is a crucial boost for Malaysia as they continue their campaign for a spot in the final round of the tournament in China.
