Johor Darul Ta’zim will feel they let two precious points slip away after tied Shanghai Port FC 0-0 draw in the AFC Champions League Elite 2025/26 League Stage (East Zone) at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
The Shanghai Port goalkeeper produced one of the standout goalkeeping displays of the tournament, single-handedly denying JDT and keeping the Chinese side alive in the competition.
JDT carved open Shanghai Port repeatedly from the first whistle.
Bergson, Jairo, Nacho Mendez, Jonathan Silva — all had sights of goal, all denied by the stubborn brilliance of Chen Wei.
The best early chance came in the 12th minute when Bergson spun at the top of the box and curled a low effort inches wide with the goalkeeper beaten. Minutes later, Chen palmed away Silva’s free kick before reacting again to block Bergson’s rebound.
Bergson went close again from 20 yards in the 22nd minute, while Chen kept out Jonathan Silva’s free kick soon after and reacted sharply again to deny Bergson’s follow-up attempt.
JDT continued to create chances — Eddy Israfilov headed over at a corner, and Mendez thought he had scored in the 32nd minute, only for Chen to make a stunning full-stretch save to his right.
Chen then tipped Bergson’s close-range strike over the bar from the resulting corner with a remarkable reflex stop as Shanghai Port somehow stayed level.
Gabrielzinho almost punished the hosts on a counter, burning past Antonio Glauder before Syihan Hazmi stood tall to block his shot.
Jairo’s header five minutes after the break was saved again by Chen before the forward looped another attempt over the bar, as chances kept coming for Xisco Munoz’s men.
Bergson smashed his 63rd-minute effort against the bar while Mendez went even closer — beating Chen after a defensive error by Zhang Linpeng, only for the ball to rebound off the post, hit the goalkeeper on the back, and roll across the face of goal.
Even as JDT threw bodies forward late on — Silva blasting over, Israfilov heading inches wide — Shanghai Port held their ground.
Their only real chance came from Gabrielzinho, who tore past Antonio Glauder in a blistering counterattack before Syihan Hazmi saved Malaysia’s blushes with a big stop.
A chance for JDT to tighten their grip on the knockout race slipped away — but the Malaysian giants remain well-positioned entering the two-month ACL Elite break.
