Kuala Lumpur City FC is pleased to announce the appointment of YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Shahidan Kassim as its Patron. His Patron-ship carries the position of Kuala Lumpur City FC president whereby he will act as a guardian and advisor on any football-related matters in the club’s best interest.
Dato’ Seri Shahidan, who is the Federal Territories Minister, is no stranger to the Malaysia sports industry having served as President for both the Malaysia Swimming Federation and the Malaysia Athletics Federation. His vast involvement in sports will be an invaluable asset for KL City FC.
This appointment is aligned with KL City FC’s growing journey and through Dato’ Seri Shahidan’s wisdom and guidance, KL City FC hope to create the path for the team toward the vision and mission laid out. While the team grows, this appointment will be a statement of intent in their strive to aim higher.
Together, the club will continue its advocacy for unity in the local community, conveyed through the club’s diversity. This will inculcate the common underlying values within our diverse heritage, traditions, and cultures that bind Malaysians as one.
Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) President YB Khalid Samad said Dato’ Seri Shahidan’s appointment will be a testament to unity by way of football.
“As KLFA President, I take great pride in announcing that Dato’ Seri Shahidan has accepted our offer to act as KL City FC President during his tenure as the Federal Territories Minister,” said Khalid.
“This signifies the role of sports, and football in particular, as a unifying force where people of different political affiliations such as myself and Dato’ Seri Shahidan, can come together for the betterment of football in Kuala Lumpur.
“It is sincerely believed that through Dato’ Seri Shahidan’s role as the KL City FC President, together, we can bring the club to higher levels of success and achievements.”
Echoing Khalid’s sentiments is KL City FC’s Chief Executive Officer Stanley Bernard who believes that gathering all stakeholders in a unified meaningful surrounding is the key to building a solid foundation at this football club.
“Imagine a football club that has the support of all key stakeholders who are willing to put aside their differences in the aim to build a strong, competitive football team on and off the pitch,” said Stanley.
